Painting wicker furniture

Written by Wicker Paradise

3We all have an old piece of furniture that we can’t get enough of. For some it’s that patio swing that we read on for hours. But now, it is starting to look its age. Paint is peeling and bits are coming off. Fortunately this is not a problem, all you need to do is get some wicker replacement cushions and give it a fresh coat of paint.

When it comes to the type of paint, matte finish paint is best. When painting make sure that the paint gets in all the little gaps in the furniture. If there was a previous coating of paint, just clean it with a brush and paint over. Do not try to scrape the old paint off, you will just end up damaging the wicker chairs further.

If maintenance and care is what you are after, you can also apply a layer or two of lacquer or varnish. This will protect it from the weather and in turn give it a slightly newer look. Still, it is always advisable to use an outdoor cover to give it proper protection.

When it comes to applying the paint, the finish is better if spray paint is used. If the furniture was painted a color other than white before, then use a white primer first. Then apply the color of your choice over. This will prevent any disfiguration from showing through the paint.
