Tips for Preparing Your Trees and Shrubs for Cold Weather
With winter fast approaching it’s important to take care of your trees and shrubs to make sure they’re ready for the cold weather that will soon be here. When you take the time to trim up trees and shrubs in the late fall they will be more full and beautiful come spring. It helps transform your lawn into that oasis you’ve been dreaming about for so long.
Tips for preparing your trees and shrubs for cold weather:
- It’s important to keep the trees and shrubs in your backyard free of disease and insects that could do damage and trimming them up can help you do this.
- Trimming up the larger trees will allow the sun to reach the grass helping it to grow and be healthier.
- Clean out all the debris around the trees and shrubs so they’ll soak up more moisture.
- Keep watering your trees, shrubs and other plants until the ground begins to freeze. They still need water to survive even though the weather is colder.
- If you have plants in a container, it’s recommended that you find a place inside to store them throughout the winter to prevent damage.
- Place fertilizer spikes in the ground around your trees and shrubs to give them the extra nutrients they need to make it throughout the winter.
- Stake up any new shrubs or trees in your lawn to prevent breakage from snow, ice and high winds.
The more time you spend preparing your trees and shrubs for the winter the healthy and more vibrant they will be come spring. It may take a little time and hard work on your part but it’ll be worth it when you’re sitting out in your backyard enjoying the beautiful weather with friends and family.
