Most everyone has an area of their lawn where items seem to collect and pile up. Many people also have areas along the edge of their backyard where grass and brush have taken over. It’s too dangerous to clean these areas in the spring and summer because many snakes make their home here.
If you get out there cutting and dragging brush and debris around, it’s a good chance you could get them stirred up. That’s why, now is an excellent time to clean the brush and debris out of your backyard. It will be much safer to move around in these areas when the weather is cold.
Start by gathering up anything that doesn’t belong in your yard and prepare it to be hauled away. If you don’t have any need for these items take them to the nearest landfill in your area. Once you have all the foreign objects out of your yard, it’s time to start on the brush and overgrowth.
Start by cutting out all the heaviest overgrowth first and putting it in a pile. Then go through and trim up anything that is left like branches that have broken off of trees and so forth. Next, you need to find a way to dispose of this debris. If you decide to burn it, make sure you contact the proper officials in your area and follow all of the guidelines set in place for burning brush.
Now you can go back to the area and finish cleaning. Walk through the area and look for rocks, stumps, trash or anything else that could cause damage to your lawn mower. Once the area is clear, mow down the tall grass and weeds to finish cleaning out the area. Now all you have to do is relax until spring and add this section of your lawn to your regular maintenance routine.
