Bring Birds to Your Backyard
Birds add beauty to your backyard while making it appear alive and vibrant. Listening to the birds chipping in the morning is a great way to start the day and watching them fly around can be quite entertaining at times. Bird watching is a great pastime for many.
Not only are they a natural way to brighten up the place but they also eat pesky insects and pollinate the area helping to keep your backyard healthy and looking good. There are several ways to bring birds to your backyard making it possible for all homeowners to take advantage of the benefits birds have to offer.
All you really have to do is provide them with feeders, bird baths and shelter where they can eat drink and have a place to live. Plants provide the best shelter for birds and they also dress up your lawn. Your choices include bushes, shrubs, trees and a variety of plants. Nevertheless, many birds will make homes in birdhouses and they help to brighten up your lawn as well.
Create the Perfect Hummingbird Habitat
Hummingbirds are amazing little creatures that can bring a lot of pleasure to your life. It’s fun and entertaining watching them fly around your backyard. But the hummingbird is a little different from other species. They have a lot of character and if you’re not familiar with these birds, you’ll soon learn they can be very possessive and demanding. They don’t like to share with others so it’s important to provide a habitat with plenty of options when it comes to feeders and places to call home.
Start by scattering several feeders throughout your backyard. Once a hummingbird claims a certain feeder as its own, it will fight off others to keep them away. You can also grow plants that provide food for the hummingbird and this will increase the number of birds that can make a home in your backyard.
Hummingbirds are demanding because they like a clean feeder with fresh food. If the food gets old or when it runs out, they have a tendency of flying around your head whenever you’re near the feeder. Sometimes, they will even fly right up to your face and sit in front of you for a few seconds. It may be a coincidence but it seems as though they’re telling you, it’s time to refill.
Provide perches for them to rest on, shelter and nestling places along with a fresh water source (they prefer fountains, sprinklers and other moving water sources) and you’ll have the perfect hummingbird habitat.
How to Attract Birds to Your Backyard in the Winter
There is nothing more beautiful than a yard full of birds hovering around the backyard in the winter. When you attract birds to your backyard you not only create gorgeous scenery that you and your family can enjoy but you also help protect the birds in the winter and help them survive. It’s difficult for birds to find the things necessary to survive during the cold months but you can help.
Here are four things that you can do to help protect the birds in the winter and draw them to your backyard:
1. Provide Them Plenty of Food- You can buy birdseed in most any retail store and they also love bread and crackers.
2. Keep Fresh Water Available- It can be difficult for birds to find fresh water in the winter so, placing bird baths and other items around your backyard that can be filled with water will draw the birds to your home.
3. Provide Plenty of Shelter- Birdhouses not only look beautiful scattered throughout the lawn but they make excellent homes for the birds to get out of the weather.
4. Provide Material for Nesting- Providing the birds with an easy source of nesting material such as bits of cloth, straw and yarn will make it easy for them to get comfortable in their new home.
These four simple things can draw birds to your backyard and keep them there throughout the seasons. It’s a good idea to learn as much as you can about the birds in your area. This way, you’ll know which foods attract them the most and how you can help provide them with the things they need to survive the winter.
