How to Get Your Backyard Shed Ready for Winter

It’s that time of year again when the cold air is beginning to settle in and it’ll soon be too cold to get outside and work in the garden or to take care of the lawn. By this time you’ve probably already gather together all of your tools and you’ve most likely cleaned out and re-organized your shed but there are still a  few  more things that you can do to make sure your backyard shed is ready for winter. This way you can rest assured that all of your stored items are safe and secure enough to make it through the winter undamaged.

Tips for getting your backyard ready for winter:

  • Start by getting a ladder and checking the roof to make sure it’s in good condition and there are no leaks. If there is anything torn or out of place now is the time to fix it. Leaks are the number one thing that can do the most damage to your stored items.
  • If the shed has gutters, these should be cleaned out and checked for damage.
  • Check the seals around the door and windows to make sure there are no leaks.
  • Trim up any branches that are hanging over the shed or pressing up against the shed to prevent damage in high winds and bad weather.
  • Check to see if the shed needs to be painted. If the paint is peeling or old looking then it needs to be repainted to protect the building itself from the elements.

Using these tips will help you keep your backyard shed in good shape, which in turn, will protect all of its contents. This way, you can enjoy the holidays and spending time with friends while never having to think twice about whether or not the contents of your backyard shed is being protected from the elements.
