Don’t let Winter Spoil Your Toddler’s Backyard Fun

The winter can be boring for kids, especially toddlers who don’t understand why they can’t just run out the front door and play for a while. However, you don’t have to let winter spoil your toddler’s backyard fun. He can still run and play with his toys as long as you make two major changes.

The first thing you need to do, so your child can play outside this winter, is to make sure she dresses warmly and in layers. Technology has made many improvements when it comes to clothing. It’s easy to find lightweight materials that will keep her warm while giving her the freedom to run around for a while and play.

The second thing you need to do is limit the time spent outside. Even if he says he’s not cold, you don’t want him staying out in the winter air a long time. He can spend 15 or 20 minutes playing, then come in and warm up for awhile. If it’s really cold, he can always make two or three short trips outside throughout the day. This will allow him to burn off that extra energy without being exposed to the cold for long periods.
