Depending on where you live, fall may have already started to take over your backyard. In some climates, it is a bit slower to arrive and some homeowners are being faced with a backyard fall mess. Leaves start to fall from the trees, winds blow debris everywhere and you may also find summer equipment, furniture and other items are getting dirty or dingy. It’s important to take time at the start of fall to clean up your backyard and put away certain summer items but it’s not too late if you haven’t done this year.
Here are some fall backyard cleanup tips that will help you get your backyard in top shape:
- Pull in all of your summer stuff. Anything that you will not be using over the summer you can pick up and pack up. Put covers on pools or other structures that will not be used in the fall and winter. Pull in any kids’ toys that will not be used in the cooler weather.
- Cut, trim and fertilize. Now is the time to cut the grass, trim the lawn, winterize the soil and repair fencing or trim up trees before all the leaves start falling off.
- Rake up the leaves. Speaking of leaves, you want to be sure you keep them clean and off the grass or they will kill the lawn. Bugs and other creepy crawlies also get attracted to piles of leaves in the yard so it’s a good idea to keep it all picked up.
- Do one project at a time. You might have several projects to work on around your house and backyard so don’t try to do it all in one day or even in one weekend. Take it one project at a time and you will be able to achieve your goals.
