Is the Family Dog Ready for Cold Weather?

As the summer begins to work its way into fall, the cold weather will begin to set in. Before it does, you need to ask yourself if the family dog is ready for the cold weather to arrive. Sometimes, in the heat of the summer, you can forget that your pet will need a warm, cozy place to spend the fall and winter. He may be comfortable now while it's still warm outside but is he going to be warm and cozy when cold weather arrives?

Don’t wait until it gets cold to do a thorough inspection of your dog’s home. Now’s the time to look for cracks where the wind can blow through or rotten and damaged wood. If the floor, roof or sides of his home is damaged, not only will it not provide the protection he needs but it could also be dangerous.

When the rain, snow and ice hit, it can cause the damaged areas to get worse. The roof could cave in or the floor could give way creating a safety hazard for your pet. It would be much easier and a lot more comfortable fixing any problems that exist now, instead of when it’s freeing outside. Your dog will be much happier and safer this fall and winter when his home is up to standards.
